Feisty Filching Autosolo

This fourth Filching Manor Autosolo was our largest event so far with 46 cars competing, including 17 MGCC members making up over a third of the entry. It was also rewarding to see the growing number of young members entering. In particular, Laurie Kendall getting a third in class at his first ever competitive driving event. The MGCC entry was good despite several regulars being unavailable for this event.

We used a slightly different format this year with only two test routes but with entrants having four runs at each. This saved time on the changeover between running groups and allowed a smoother operation. The day was dry and sunny, but unfortunately the wind got stronger in the afternoon causing problems with blowing over cones and even one of the control pergolas.  The event proved as popular as ever with all entrants, as the venue provides a fun driving experience with the site topography, as well as the excellent venue and museum of cars and record breaking K3 speedboat. Most AutoSOLOs are held at venues with a flat tarmac area and this undulating course makes quite a difference!

We were again lucky to have the charity refreshment stall and Helen made £524.00 for St Wilfred’s Hospice even with her excellent value prices.

The event is run with the Sevenoaks & District Motor Club and they fielded a strong turnout including several Mazda MX5s and, for the first time at this event, an electric BMW I3. The overall winner was Ruurd Otten in one of those MX5s and the best MG Car Club entrant was Martin Neal in an Austin Healey Sprite. You can see all the results by clicking the button below.
