It Was A Dusty Autotest

Andrew Sewell creating plenty of dust in his RV8

We have had plenty of heatwaves this year and well over a month without any rain  – ideal conditions to create a Western dustbowl in a farmer’s field in Sussex. The swirling dust clouds were testament to the effort being put in by the drivers in our Summer Evening Autotest as they slithered around a series of cones. Three tests were laid out; once completed, they were altered for another three before dusk fell and the occasional headlight pierced the gloom.

The Sevenoaks & District Motor Club were invited guests at the event and Club members made up about half of the entries fielded.

That meant it was time to head for the adjacent Dorking Brewery Tap Room and the checking of results. These days, thanks to Timing App Live, the task of totting up the scores is automatic and it was not long before the results were announced. A local farmer brought along some freshly laid eggs for sale at the end which brought an unusual rural touch to the results.

Organiser John Morgan led proceedings and presented the rosettes to the winners. A full set of results is available by clicking the button below.

The MGCCSE will be organising two further Summer Evening Autotests in 2027 if you would like to have a go! The SDMC also organise autotests to which MGCC members are invited – the next is on 19th September.
