The Alternative Pride of Ownership concluded at The Fairmile in Cobham with a record turnout of over 50 MGs. Not all entered the PoO on the night as it also coincided with a Club Evening where we welcomed new members who may not have been with us on an event or natter before. It was a delightful warm evening and we sold out of umbrellas to keep the sun off!
A big thanks to John Morgan who organises the three rounds and collates the results, aided and abetted this year by Jenny Morgan, Philip Roussel-Smith and Austin Banner.
You’ll find all the results on the button below and a summary of the winners from each round after John’s report on the overall event.
John Morgan’s Report
This informal event concluded at the Fairmile Natter on 10th July. It ran over the regular three rounds with the first at the North Surrey Natter and the second at the Surrey Oaks, Newdigate, both in June.
Round one was supported by 20 cars with the event held in the recreational field behind the pub. Car of Show was Dave Naylor’s L2.
Round two was held on a Saturday lunchtime in a lovely country pub setting with 12 car support, Car of Show was Adrian Malthouse’s MGA.
The final round at the Fairmile broke all previous records of MG attendance with 53 cars recorded (although there may have been one or two others that slipped in the field). As usual, the event was held in the field in front of the pub with cars lined up in model years. 33 cars took part in the Pride of Ownership with 21 cars in the Best All Rounder Class. The Car of Show was Adrian Malthouse’s MGA again.
The results from all three rounds were totaled to arrive at the overall winner, who receives the only trophy awarded for this event. To win this, usually requires the entrant to attend all three rounds, and eight members were in contention. It was close between the top 3 but with the exceptional 21 cars in the Best All Rounder Class at the Fairmile, it allowed Adrian Malthouse to overtake Dave Naylor who had been the earlier leader. The final overall leaderboard was:
Adrian Malthouse – 59 points – Iris Blue MGA
Roger Gasson – 56 points – MGZB Varitone Magnette
Dave Naylor – 51 points – MGL2.
The 2025 events were blessed with some amazing summer evenings and 63 members took part at some stage of the event.
One note of explanation, a bonus is added to the voting with respect of the overall trophy only. The reason for this is that some classes tended to be somewhat smaller than say the Best All Rounder Class with the same number of votes being cast in each class. Although not perfect, the bonus tries to balance this deficiency in the overall scoring.
