The California Cup is the premier MG Car Club Autotest which took place at the annual main gathering of the Club’s MGs at Silverstone. It returns for 2026 at a new venue – Brands Hatch. It will be part of the MG Fest ’26 show and is organised by the South East Centre.
You can enter the California Cup as an individual and/or as part of a team competing for one of several trophies on offer for your Centre or Register.
Entries are now open and individual entries should be made via the “Timing App Live” app in order that your entry can be registered and timings recorded. This must be done even if you intend to enter as a team. Please click the link below:-
TEAM ENTRIES
• The CALIFORNIA CUP for teams of three drivers from the same geographical Centre, entered in the name of that Centre, and driving MG cars of any type, including those entered in the “modified” class. Eligibility to represent a Centre shall be recorded on the driver’s MG Car Club membership card.
• The REGISTER TROPHY for teams of three drivers from the Vintage, MMM, SVW, Y-Type and T-Type Registers entered in the name of the Register and driving cars from those Registers. Eligibility to represent a Register shall be determined by the type of car being driven (i.e. the car does not need to be on the official Register).
• TheBMC TROPHY shall be contested by teams of three drivers from the Magnette, MGA (including the Twin Cam Group), MGB, MGC, Midget and V8 Registers, entered in the name of the Register and driving MG cars from those Registers. Eligibility to represent a Register shall be determined by the type of car being driven (i.e. the car does not need to be on the official Register). The BMC Trophy can also be contested by teams of three cars being marques produced by BMC, British Leyland, Austin Rover, MG Rover & Standard Triumph and driven by eligible and invited Club members from MG Car Club or other invited Clubs. Potentially one, two or three eligible marques in any one team, which can include one or more eligible MGs and or other eligible marques.
• The LONGBRIDGE TROPHY for teams of three drivers from the FWD, MGF, ZR/ZS/ZT, MG Motor Registers entered in the name of the Register and driving MG cars from those Registers. Eligibility to represent a Register shall be determined by the type of car being driven (i.e. the car does not need to be on the official Register).
Team scores shall be calculated as the sum of the scores of the individual drivers.
Centres and Registers may enter more than one team. Teams entered for the Register, BMC and Longbridge Trophies shall also be eligible for the California Cup if all the drivers represent the same geographical Centre.
No one individual Centre team can win more than one team trophy. If they are entered for and win the California Cup, with an overall fastest team score, that individual team cannot then take any of the other three team trophies (Register, BMC or Longbridge) even if they are deemed to have entered and won on cumulative fastest times. The next fastest team entered (in that particular competition) will then be deemed the winners of that team trophy, even if they are another team from the same Centre that has won the California Cup.
No car may be entered more than once in the team competitions unless driven by family members sharing the same membership number.
Eligibility:
- The California Cup – MG Car Club Members only.
- The Register Trophy – MG Car Club Members only for MG types listed.
- The BMC Trophy – MG Car Club members, Rover Owners Club members and Metro Owners Club members.
- The longbridge Trophy – MG Car Club members for the MG models listed.
In the event of a tie, the award(s) shall be shared. The MG Car Club shall retain all team trophies.
Team entries shall be made on the form on this webpage. The Secretary of the Meeting will confirm Team Entry accepted and Team entry closing date is Monday 10th August at noon.
