We have enjoyed another varied and exciting year with a whole range of things to do with your MG. They have ranged from a visit to the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway to the introduction of more grassroots motor sports in the form of a pair of Evening Autotests. Then, there have been the social gatherings – both Summer and Autumn in Chiddingstone and Newhaven, three rounds of the Alternative PoO culminating in record numbers at The Fairmile in July. We enjoyed a flowery Drive-It-Day at Pashley Gardens and took part in two Naviscats plus our annual Autosolo at Filching and continued the new series of Autumn Scavenger Hunts. So, there was plenty going on and that is before you get to the local Natter and Wanderer groups who all organise their own series of events, runs and talks. I gave a couple myself this year and they were good fun on a dark evening down the pub.
It has been a busy year for us in the MG Car Club, which was crowned by the South East winning the coveted Nuffield Gold Cup for the first time in 45 years. We were delighted to have it at our annual lunch & awards in November and be able to present it to the Committee. That was a memorable event with Simon Gray’s monologues setting proceedings in a thoughtful way and Dr Ian Pogson’s illuminating insights into Chinese engineering and a flight in a Lancaster. We are nothing if not varied!
Well done to all our prizewinners this year and thank you to all the Members who have supported the club by coming to our events and taking part in our competitions.
With our MGs we can still enjoy life, although the times may sometimes be troubled, and what better way than getting out and about with like-minded enthusiasts. We are an inclusive club and welcome all MGs – vintage, classic and modern. The programme is coming together for 2026 and you are invited to get involved, whatever you drive! It is looking good – with an exciting new event in the Summer.
You can look back at 2025 in the video below and reminisce on some of the events you have been to – or see what you missed and maybe you can join us next year?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Tim Morris, Chair MG Car Club South East
Note: The header picture shows two of my MGs on top of Exmoor. They were both at this location, the MG4 was this year and the MGF over 20 years ago. The F was actually stuck in a blizzard at that location whilst the 4 was in beautiful sunshine. With the help of AI both have been combined and some Christmassy bits added! (A little more confession – the MGF here was actually pictured at the Fairmile in the Summer and inserted!)
