Brooklands Museum
You may remember that the author of the book on Goldie Gardner, John Mayhead, gave a talk at our MG100 event at Brooklands last May? If you missed it or would like to see it again then he is returning to Brooklands on Wednesday 25th June, and the Brooklands Members have invited the MG Car Club South East to join them in the clubhouse. The event is also being broadcast on YouTube Livestream.
This is the amazing story of Alfred Goldie Gardner, the “world’s most successful speed record driver”. Despite suffering severe injuries in the First World War and ongoing disabilities, Goldie Gardner became a successful Brooklands racer between the wars. But it was his record-breaking that came to define him, driving diminutive MG based specials to a host of speed records before and after the Second World War. Of the book, one reviewer wrote “A captivating read which really transports you back to the sounds, smells and emotions of an early – and lethal – era of motorsport.
