Report on Spring Naviscat – 8th March 2020

A wonderful collection of 13 cars took part in the Spring Naviscat that John and Sally Reay very skilfully organise in the beautiful South Downs National Park between Arundel and Chichester. For the first time ever all 26 competing drivers and navigators had to posses valid “Motorsport UK Clubmans Competition Licences” but these could be obtained free of charge at registration.

MGs of all types and ages arrived at The Spur PH in Slindon, together with a selection of beautiful Inter-Register Club cars which Mr Toad would have been proud of. After coffee we were given 3½ hours to plan our own routes and collect as many answers as possible from the map references provided. The area was full of little hills, valleys and small country lanes. The clues that we were given were imaginative and asked us to hunt for a Concorde tree, the price of a pee, some frustra and a gripple amongst many other things – but they all made complete sense when we found them!

As we sat down to our roast dinners, the Reays carefully sorted out the results: Steve & Denise Cherry put in an outstanding performance in their MGB to take first place. Stuart Manser & Janina Downey got first in classes C/D/E, (they will be setting the next Spring Naviscat). Alex Lemon & Mike Chittenden took first place in classes A/B, (they will be setting the next Autumn Naviscat). We ourselves got the Inter-Register Prize in our Twin Cam and we are pleased to say that our Club Secretary, Austin Banner with Alison Newlyn were the Best Novices in their RV8.

Our thanks must go to John & Sally Reay for the wonderful organisation and their original ideas. We are now all looking forward to the Autumn Naviscat scheduled for Sunday 4th October 2020, (coronavirus permitting) and we are reliably informed should be somewhere in the countryside near Reigate. Come along and have a go, help will be available if you need it!
